For Mental Health Awareness Month, I’m running a series of free online sessions to raise awareness about the impact of stress on your health and wellbeing. Stress is something we all experience, but when it builds up over time, it can take a serious toll—physically, mentally, and emotionally.
What Is Stress?
Stress is the body’s natural response to feeling threatened or under pressure. When this happens, your body releases adrenaline, often called the “fight or flight” hormone. In small doses, stress can actually be positive, giving you the energy and motivation to perform at your best.
But when stress becomes prolonged or you’re juggling too many stressors at once, the effects can be damaging.
The Impact of Stress on Health
Too much stress doesn’t just affect your mood—it impacts your body, relationships, and overall wellbeing. Common effects include:
- Feeling anxious, irritable, or overwhelmed
- Lowered self-esteem
- Difficulty sleeping or concentrating
- Increased muscle tension and headaches
- Emotional or physical exhaustion (often called burnout)
Stress and Burnout
Burnout occurs when long-term stress leaves you feeling drained and unable to cope. It can manifest as both mental and physical exhaustion, leaving you less productive and more disconnected from the things that matter most.
Exercise for Stress Relief
One of the most effective, natural ways to manage stress is through movement and exercise. Activities like Pilates not only strengthen your body but also calm your mind, reduce muscle tension, and improve mood.
That’s why, throughout Mental Health Awareness Month, I’ll be hosting free 30-minute Pilates sessions each week to help you reset, recharge, and take positive steps toward better mental health.
